| over a decade in the making |
Our story starts at Westglades Middle School, circa 2011. One day in September after school, Jake found a random unsaved number in his phone. Naturally curious, he sent that number a "who is this?" text. Little did he know that single text would dictate the trajectory of the rest of his life. We can all guess who's phone number it was.
From the day Tristan received that text message, she and Jake were inseparable. Staying up until 2am texting about everything and anything. Finding each other between classes to continue conversations from the night before. Spending every second until the bell in that Spanish class hallway transfixed on one another. Sitting together at lunch. Walking to Walmart to get picked up from school. Hanging out every Friday night at one house or the other. All the while staying "just friends".
Winter break was when Jake confessed he liked Tristan as more than just a friend. While the feelings were mutual, it wasn't for another two months until these middle schoolers decided to give this relationship thing a try. Back in that Spanish class hallway, on February 24, 2012, Jake asked Tristan to finally be his girlfriend. Tristan said "Yes!" before he could even finish his sentence.
The following twelve years were filled with some pretty high highs and some pretty low lows. Attending separate high schools. Moving away from home for the first time to attend UCF together. Fraternity and sorority life. Grief and loss. Becoming dog parents. Multiple graduations. COVID. Internships and first jobs. Moving...a lot. Through it all, Jake and Tristan's love for one another never wavered and has only gotten stronger. As if proof of this was needed, the day after Jake signed his newest job contract, he asked his mom to go ring shopping.
On March 1, 2024, as they were about to walk out the door to celebrate a belated 12 year anniversary, Jake gave them yet another reason to celebrate that night. He got down on one knee and asked the question Tristan had been waiting to hear since she was 14, doodling "Tristan Hoyer" in her notebooks. Another nearly immediate "Yes!" was given.
While it has been a long and windy road to get here, we are so incredibly excited to celebrate our love, history, and future with you! Thank you for being a part of our story!
